How to meditate for Christians?

That is the question… Is it or is it not safe for Christians to meditate?  I’ve noticed that Christianity today the famous and reputable magazine says no.  The reasons it cites is that it’s not Biblical and that we’re not to go into an altered state of consciousness.   However, the Bible itself cites passages of God’s chosen being in a trance or altered state of consciousness (in the spirit) before God is message to them. How to meditate for Christians

Acts 22:17 When I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance.

Revelation 4:2 At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne.

So, the Bible indicates that direct experiences with God can be through what I consider higher states of consciousness or God consciousness.  A proper Christian meditation focused on being mindful of God coupled with stillness are powerful practices that will surely strengthen your Christian walk.

I remember as a producer, director for a Christian Cable network Total Living Network, watching Christian health enthusiasts fumbling with trying to explain the importance of deep clear breathing and stillness without being blasphemous.  I watched as an ex Yoga master warned of the dangers of opening the mind to meditation because it would open the doorways to the demonic.

Well, I’m tired of the Christian community disrespecting a practice that’s been around since way before the time of Jesus.  Yes, I said it, before the time of Jesus, and I’m not talking about Eastern meditation, I’m talking about pure Biblical Meditation that dates back to the time of Job, King David, Ezekiel etc…

Genesis 24:63  “And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening” ESV

Psalm 63:6 “when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night;” ESV

How should Christians meditate?

Now as we can see in these Biblical examples, the writers of these two verses are not saying they sat with their Bible in the hands and read a verse and meditated on it.  Now please don’t misinterpret what I’m implying.  Reading and studying the Bible is imperative for our spiritual growth and with that we also need to take time to experience the Holy Spirit, who resides within us.  These two verses and a number of other verses shows us that an experience is needed. We long for an experience that’s generated through meditation. In reference to the doorways opening up to the demonic.  The only way that will happen is if you start dabbling in a number of new age and Eastern meditative techniques.

How to meditate for ChristiansThe Bible tells us: Ephesians 1:13   In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,

That’s right; you were signed, sealed and delivered to the Holy Spirit.  As long as you maintain that belief and keep your faith as a believer in Jesus Christ, going into a meditative state is safe and secure.  It is the best way for a Christian to begin to develop a very powerful spiritual experience with the Holy Spirit.

Discover the power of Christian Meditation

Now how to meditate for Christians that’s safe an effective is quite simple.  We sit down in a quiet room; we sit either in a chair with our back straight, or sit on the floor in a Christian meditation pose.  You can find out more on this HERE. Slowly begin to breathe naturally.  Allow the breath to naturally fill you belly first and then slowly let it make its way to the chest area.  At this point you may feel areas in your body that are tense.

Good, you’ve discovered an area that’s blocking your ability to flow in the spirit.  Focus your attention on those areas and just allow them to relax.   Keep breathing like this as you give thanks to the Holy Spirit for your life and that you are here now wanting to spend time with Him.  Continue to focus on the breath and feel your heart flow with the love of God.  Bask in the feeling for a few minutes.   That’s it for now, if you want to know more about Christian meditation and want to learn how to meditate for Christians visit us at our website.
